mixing prints

while mixing prints has long been known to be a fashion no-no, it's a trend that's showing up more and more this spring. when mixing prints there are a few things you can do to make it work.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

avoid mixing equally busy prints, they can become an eyesore quick...  the prints don't have to be the same (i.e. gingham + gingham), but it helps to have a bold print like these stripe shorts and a smaller print to complement it like the gingham print of this top.

tie in the colors, if you're mixing a busier print try to keep the focus on one color that is prevalent in both prints.  in this case, the black and white stripe is neutural enough to complement the bright pink gingham. plus stripes are a basic that you can match with almost any print!
